November 2026 – Unanimous acquittal of our client on the felony charge of active bribery of a public official
Judgment No. 246/2025 – 176/2026 of the Three-Member Felony Appeals Court of Evia was issued, by which our client, a tax-registered businessman, was acquitted. He had been charged with active bribery of a public official (Article 236(2) of the Penal Code), in its felony form, for an alleged act contrary to the official’s duties.
Specifically, our client was accused of intentionally promising and subsequently providing officials of a specific Tax Office with an improper pecuniary benefit, for themselves, so that they would carry out an act contrary to their duties, namely to facilitate tax-related matters, by issuing Tax Compliance Certificates (Αποδεικτικά Φορολογικής Ενημερότητας) without the statutory conditions for their issuance being met.
Following a convoluted, lengthy trial, the Court, persuaded by the defense arguments we put forward, unanimously acquitted the defendant – our client – of all charges.
